EXPLORE THE FULL POTENTIAL OF HFC NETWORK

The cable television business in the Philippines developed late, so coaxial resources are not developed, and the quality of coaxial laying is average. However, according to an article published by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) of the Philippines, the Philippines is the fastest growing Internet country in the world, so the Philippines has a huge potential in the network service business. Most of the operators in the Philippines are privately held. Therefore, when providing network services to end users, operators generally choose the most cost-effective network solutions based on actual costs. Converge is the largest limited TV operator in the Philippines, with its head-quarters in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. The business scope of Converge covers multiple cities across the country. Converge not only provides users with fiber-to-home solutions, but also provides HFC network modification where the original coaxial is laid.

Given that the users' dwellings are scattered and the head-end is far from the optical node, the better choice is to use the RMD solution. However, Converge considers that it also requires the deployment of optical transmitting equipment and optical receiving equipment at the optical node in the head-end even if the traditional RMD solution is used. Thus, Converge wants to implement both TV services and broadband Internet services through the switch in the head-end.

Converge chose our outdoor RMD devices to help them realize the aforementioned requirements. Compared to centralized solutions, our decentralized RMD solution moves the CMTS down to the optical node, which reduces the number of end users connected to the optical node and increases the user's average home bandwidth. These features perfectly suit operators like Converge who has their users distribute dispersedly. Besides, our solution helps them save a great quantity of cost in network transformation because most of the existing devices and infrastructures (e.g., STB) were reused in our RMD devices. Meanwhile, we also provide a full set of network management system for Converge to help them monitor the entire set of equipment.
